Do you know Emmanuel Wynne<\/strong> ? Everyone knows Jack Rackham<\/em> (aka Calico Jack<\/em>), Edward Teach<\/em> (Barbe Noire), mais malheureusement l’histoire d’Emmanuel Wynne<\/strong> est rarement connue alors qu’il est le creator of the pirate flag<\/strong> tel qu’on le conna\u00eet aujourd’hui et qu’il is... French<\/strong> !<\/p>\n

Emmanuel Wynne<\/strong> (or Wynn<\/em> lorsqu’il est repris par les anglo-saxons) est un French pirate<\/strong> born in 1650 and died around 1700 in the Caribbean. It is the first<\/strong> to display a skull with crossed femurs on its flag and is considered to be the designer<\/strong> from Jolly Roger<\/em>. D’ailleurs l’expression Jolly Roger<\/em> viendrait de la d\u00e9formation anglo-saxonne de l’expression fran\u00e7aise \u00ab\u00a0pretty red<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb d\u00e9signant la red version of the flag<\/strong> des pirates qui signifiait \u00ab\u00a0no quarters<\/strong>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Le pavillon d’Emmanuel Wynne<\/strong> qui \u00e9tait hiss\u00e9 au grand m\u00e2t de l’Adventure<\/em>\u00a0is made up of two femurs<\/strong> intertwined, a skull<\/strong> and a hourglass<\/strong>. The significance of the bones is rather trivial and the hourglass<\/strong> expresses le peu de temps qu’il restait \u00e0 ses adversaires avaient pour prendre la d\u00e9cision de fuir ou de se rendre<\/strong> s’ils ne voulaient pas mourir.<\/p>\n

We've created this slightly restyled version of the original pirate flag for pay tribute to Emmanuel Wynne<\/strong>but also to express our share of chauvinism<\/span>. L’h\u00e9ritage fran\u00e7ais est immense, et we are often forerunners in many areas without taking credit for it<\/strong>. Let's be proud of it<\/em>.<\/p>\n
